How to apply
There are three ways available for travellers from China to apply for a visa to Vietnam.
1. Apply for a Vietnam e-Visa
Steps to apply for Vietnam e-visa
- Fill in an online application form
- Pay the fee and wait for 3 working days
- Download and print the e-visa
Documents Required
- A passport photo (in .jpg format with white background, no glasses, and dont smile) (4x6cm or 2x2inc size). Please see the photo guidelines here
- A clear, scanned copy in .jpg format of your passport’s full data (bio) page.
- You need a valid passport for at least 6 months for this visa. If your passport is expiring soon, renew it before applying for an e-visa.
- A valid international credit or debit card for e-visa fee payment.
Checkpoint Required
- Vietnam e-visa is currently accepted at 42 international checkpoints including airports, seaports and land border gates. For detailed information, refer to the list of applicable ports
Processing times and fee
- The processing time for a Vietnam E-visa is 03 working days since the Vietnam Immigration Department received your submission and full payment of the fee.
- Vietnam visa fees vary depending on visa type, processing time, and number of applicants. Refer to the visa fees for detailed information.
2. Apply for a Vietnam Visa On Arrival
Steps to apply for Vietnam visa on arrival
- Fill in an online application form for pre-approved visa letter
- Pay the fee and wait for 1-2 working days
- Download and print the approval letter and get the visa stamp upon arrival at Vietnam airport
Documents Required
- Make sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining and 2 blank visa pages for visa stamp. If you plan to get a new passport, it is advised that you do it before applying.
- Preparing 02 recently taken photos with regular passport size of 4x6cm (2x2in). Please see the photo guidelines here
- A printout and pre-filled entry/exit form to save your time at Vietnam airport.
- Stamping fee of 25 USD (for single entry visa) and 50 USD (for multiple entry visa) in cash.
Checkpoint Required
- Visa On Arrival can be only used at Vietnam International airports: Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Cat Bi, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, and Phu Bai.
Processing times and fee
- Receive the visa letter in 2-3 working days (in Emergency Cases, it can be processed in just 2-3 HOURS)

3. Apply for a Vietnam visa at an Embassy or Consulate
Contacting the nearest Vietnam Embassy/Consulate is the traditional way to get a valid visa to Vietnam. It is especially beneficial for those who are close to the office of the embassy/consulate.
Important note
- The visa documents and procedure vary depending on the embassy. So, to save your time and cost, you should call or email them for details before visiting the embassy
- Make sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining and 2 blank visa pages for visa stamp. If you plan to get a new passport, it is advised that you do it before applying.

- The application form should be downloaded on the website of the embassy/taken right at the front desk of the embassy as it may not be the same for all embassies/consulate;
- You get the visa stamped on your passport before your trip to Vietnam.
